The woman,
Brought to Adam by God
Theirs the first marriage ever
God Himself their marriage officer.
God, Adam, the woman, the garden of Eden
What bliss!
Happy ever after?
In an age without technology,
Without photography,
Without videography,
Who can tell
If the woman was happy
Or if she was lonely?
Did the woman have a latent desire
For more than what she had?
Or was she innocent until the serpent came,
Dangling power and freedom
From the knowledge of good and bad
That came from eating
The fruit God forbade them from eating?
The woman,
Blamed by her husband before God,
The husband who himself disobeyed God’s voice.
The woman stands condemned the world over
For giving in to the wiles of the serpent.
But to what extent have you, me, the world,
Gone in search of knowledge
And power?
And freedom?
And wealth?
Consequences
Great pain and suffering at childbirth
The desire to her husband
Dominance by her husband ?
Strife to her offspring.
Eve, the first mother
Gives birth to her first son, Cain.
What joy must have filled her heart!
And a second son, Abel.
Fulfillment unparalleled.
But
Cain murders Abel!
The first murder committed.
Overwhelming grief,
Eve must have experienced!
The compassionate God
Another son gives to Eve and Adam
Seth his name,
Seth the first in the genealogy
Of Jesus Christ.
